No Time to Lose

In most instances this simply requires a change of heart, a change of perspective. An understanding that although we are just one person on this planet made up of billions of people, God knows who you are and he created you for his purposes, both now and in eternity.
Here are Five Nuggets of Truth …
The work of our hands, our occupation and other tasks, is strenuous and both a burden and a gift from God
Our work finds expression in nearly every season of life
God has put eternity in the hearts of men
What we put our hands to on this earth has eternal fingerprints
God has made it this way so we will praise him and honor him

Salvation: The Reward

This morning I’ve entitled my message “Salvation: The Reward” and I want to discuss four things that I believe make salvation the most amazing gift that anyone of us could ever possess. These are four components, four benefits, four aspects within salvation that offers every believer the means to live a victorious Christian life, regardless of what life throws at you along our individual walk of faith. A Purpose that's Inspiring A Presence that's Restoring A Power that's Overcoming A Peace that's Eternal

Bikers' Church Weekend Rally

Pastor Al Abrams tells his personal story or redemption and his mission to reach those who are trapped in the same destructive lifestyle. Matthew 9: 9-13 tells us, "As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, Follow me. And he rose and followed him. And as Jesus reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and his disciples. And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners? But when he heard it, he said, Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means, I desire mercy, and not sacrifice. For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.

Salvation: The Journey

Adam (the first man) was a Son of God by creation. Jesus Christ was the Son of God by nature. You and I are sons and daughters of God by grace. Grace is something you can never get, but can only be given. You can’t earn it. You don’t deserve it. And you can’t make grace happen any more than you can bring about your own physical birth. The traditional definition of grace is that it is the unmerited favor of God. And to counteract the reality of our fallen nature and our bondage to the sin nature inside of us, God’s grace courts us from the moment of our birth.

What I Wish Someone Had Told Me Before Graduation

Today’s message is entitled, "What I Wish Someone Told Me Before I Graduated" with guest speaker, Richard Exley. 1) I wish someone had told me to make a life and not just a living.
2) I wish someone had told me that happiness is a consequence and not a goal.
3) I wish someone had told me nothing is more critical to success than my attitude.
4) I wish someone had told me that materialism is addictive. You start out owning things and before long things own you.
5) I wish someone had told me to chose my friends carefully because they will determine my destiny.
6) I wish someone had told me that God had a plan for my life and how to find it.

Salvation: The Gift

This morning I want to speak about this incredibly valuable gift of salvation that God has deposited into jars of clay, tabernacles of flesh that are (as the Apostle Paul tells us) wasting away. Today’s message is entitled, “Salvation: The Gift.” And in a culture that puts a premium on items of value, I want to spend some time talking about the most valued and treasured gift any of us own, our eternal salvation, and make abundantly clear that this amazing gift is just that, a gift.

Rest Stop

Now we know from all of God’s Word that “work” is not dismissed as being of little or no value, quite the opposite. But this is the type of thing that I want to address as we look at the benefits of living a balanced life. Jesus is not suggesting to us that worship is the only component in life and that we should devote all of our time to it. But he is telling us that that work must be put on hold at times so that we do make time for other things. What are some of those “other things?” The dynamics I’m speaking about this morning is the journey of balancing work and rest, worship and play in the day-to-day living out of our lives.

Finished

This morning I’m concluding a short three part series as we have considered some of the eternal lessons of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Today, of course, we are confronted with the amazing truth that the backdrop of the crucifixion is the resurrection. Those two events are so interwoven that it’s almost inappropriate to speak of one without speaking of the other.

Forsaken

Sins cannot be undone, only forgiven. And that was our focus last Sunday morning. This morning, my message is entitled “Forsaken.” And we begin by remembering what Jesus experienced a few hours before his crucifixion in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Forgiven

Many of us have had defining moments in our life. They usually come only a handful of times in a lifetime but they do indeed come. I’m speaking of those moments that are so revealing or directional that the after they occur the rest of our life is set on a specific track. Coming to faith in Christ is usually such a moment.

The Sharing Choice

I choose to yield myself to God to be used to bring the Good News to others, by both my example and by my words.
Jerusalem: Those who are like us
Judea: Those
who are similar to us
Samaria: Those
who are different than us
Earth: Those we
have nothing in common with us

The Growth Choice

Today’s message is called “The Growth Choice” and I mentioned the example of the Winter Olympics because I believe at least in some ways every Christian is an athlete in competition. Not in competition with others but we are certainly competing with ourselves. And interestingly enough, it was this analogy of an athlete in training that the aging Apostle Paul used when he penned the words to a much younger athlete named Timothy. Paul said that he “had fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith” and was about to be awarded a “crown of righteousness” (which in my opinion far exceeds the value of a gold medal). So today’s message is about choosing to grow so you can compete for a lifetime. Choosing to grow so you can finish strong. Choosing to grow so you can win your own crown of righteousness.

The Relationship Choice

This morning is week six of a series of eight messages that we’ve called “Life’s Healing Choices.” The underlying premise of this series is that life is the culmination of the collective choices that we make day-to-day, week-to-week, month-to-month, and year-to-year. Fortunately, most of us are not defined by one or two choices that we make in a lifetime. But our ability to make good choices in our journey of life will have a positive impact upon us as well as those we are in relationship with.

The Hope Choice

And our focus is on those situations in life and seasons of life that require God to step into our world to give us hope and comfort. I’m speaking of those moments in our life where we need God to either whisper in our hearts that everything is going to be okay when it looks just the opposite or to powerfully step into our world and reorder circumstances. Jesus says in this second “beatitude”, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” In other words, “Blessed are those that have come to the end of their rope and have no recourse but to believe God will show up in their behalf.”

Reality Choice

HOW WE PLAY GOD

1. We try to control our IMAGE by wearing masks, playing games, and hiding
the truth.
2. We try to control
OTHER PEOPLE by manipulating each other through guilt
or shame or praise or even through silence.
3. We try to control our
PROBLEMS by saying things like: “I can handle it; it’s
not really a problem. I don’t need any help. I can quit anytime.”
4. We try control our
PAIN by avoiding it, denying it, escaping it, medicating it,
drowning it, or postponing it.

Building Friends

The church sometimes suffers from mindsets and attitudes that drive folks away. I realize that a local church and a community bar are not the same thing. But I would submit to you that a congregation gets it wrong if they project an attitude that certain people need not attend. Our vision is “… building faith, building families and building friends.”

Building Families

This week's message is called “Building Families” and I begin it with an extremely important point and a very personal story. My point is this: before God set in order the church as a redemptive place for hope and salvation he put in place the most powerful unit on the whole planet – the family. Adam and Eve and their children came before Abraham, Moses, Simon Peter and the Apostle Paul. God began his work on this earth through the family, not the church. The family remains God’s primary agent of redemption, hope, guidance and salvation.

Building Faith

“But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us who are mature should take such a view of things.” Philippians 3: 13-14

Reviewing our church history going all the way back 24 years or just in the year 2009 is simply a testimony of God’s faithfulness. We acknowledge it as a part of our history and recognition of the hard work and sacrifice folks have made along the way. And yet, beginning today, our focus is on the present task before us and the future that God has promised us.
