Moving Forward in 2010
Sun/27/12 2009 Filed in: Christ's Chapel Sermons
The Apostle Paul in our opening text was not making a “New Year’s Resolution” when he penned these verses. He was not experiencing a mid-life crisis and neither was he telling us how to successfully enjoy the senior years of life. What he was doing is giving us a written declaration of how he approached life. He was revealing to the church at Philippi a personal standard by which he lived. A standard I suggest to you that is appropriate at any time of the year and one that seems even more appropriate as be conclude 2009 and begin 2010.Listen to this week's podcast or download the .mp3 file to your computer.
Christmas Lessons
Sun/13/12 2009 Filed in: Christ's Chapel Sermons
The first Christmas was the most amazing miracle ever to occur on the fact of this planet. The main characters could never have imagined that they had been hand picked by God long before they were ever born to be participants in this miracle. We can only imagine their private and personal thoughts. What we can do, however, is look back at this amazing moment when human history and divine intervention locked hands. There are four eternal lessons of that first Christmas and that’s the focus of this morning’s message. Listen to this week's podcast or download the .mp3 file to your computer.

The Church Then and Now-Thessalonians
Sun/29/11 2009 Filed in: The Church Then and Now
Long before Jesus stood on this mountainside and gravity lost its hold on his body, Old Testament prophets had predicted the coming of a Messiah. By this time the Jews as a whole had made their decision and rejected Jesus as that Messiah and set in motion the course of events that led to his crucifixion. To this day Jewish theology denies his resurrection and continues to look for the first coming of a Messiah. For Christians around the world, however, we likewise are looking for a coming Messiah but that Messiah is the same Jesus that ascended here in Acts 1 and it’s the same Jesus these two angels said would come again. And the prophets predict the second coming of Messiah will be accompanied by events upon this planet never witnessed beforehand. It’s almost as if the earth turns upon itself and there is a season of unparalleled distress. Listen to this week's podcast here or download the .mp3 file to your computer.
The Church Then and Now-Philippians
Sun/08/11 2009 Filed in: The Church Then and Now
Practical Application: Philippians is Paul’s happiest letter. And the happiness is infectious. Before we’ve read a dozen lines, we begin to feel the joy ourselves—the dance of words and the exclamations of delight have a way of getting inside us. But happiness is not a word we can understand by looking it up in the dictionary. In fact, none of the qualities of the Christian life can be learned out of a book. Something more like apprenticeship is required, being around someone who out of years of devoted discipline shows us, by his or her entire life, what it is. The Church Then and Now-Ephesians
Sun/01/11 2009 Filed in: The Church Then and Now
Practical Application: Perhaps more than any other book of the Bible, the book of Ephesians emphasizes the connection between sound doctrine and right practice in the Christian life. Far too many people ignore "theology" and instead want to only discuss things that are "practical." In Ephesians, Paul argues that theology is practical. In order to live out God's will for us in our lives practically, we must first understand who we are in Christ doctrinally.Listen to this week's podcast here or download the .mp3 file to your computer.

The Church Then and Now-Galatians
Sun/18/10 2009 Filed in: The Church Then and Now
Religion is restrictive. Before we know Christ as our personal savior we are “slaves” to sin. The law condemned us and proclaimed us guilty of death and hell. Why would anyone that has been set free from that type of pseudo-relationship with God want to go back to be a slave again?Listen to this week's podcast here or download the .mp3 file to your computer.
The Church Then and Now-Corinthians
Sun/11/10 2009 Filed in: The Church Then and Now
Our goal over the next six weeks is to look at the six churches of the New Testament that the Apostle Paul pioneered, spent some extended time with, eventually wrote letters to and on some occasions traveled back to visit these developing congregations. And when we today read these letters it becomes obvious Paul had to address some of the matters of church life at that specific day and time and so our journey will be to compare church life then to church life now.Listen to this week's podcast or download the .mp3 file to your computer.

The Mission of the Church
Sun/27/09 2009 Filed in: Missions
Every year since those earliest days the worldwide church and local congregations have had to determine in their own way how they would fulfill the command of the Great Commission to “go into every man’s world.” We at Christ’s Chapel have made that decision in some form or fashion over the years collectively and every believer has to decide what that means on a personal level. New Wineskins
Sun/20/09 2009 Filed in: Christ's Chapel Sermons
Matthew 9:17"Neither do men pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst, the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”
Relating this very natural process to the life and ministry of Jesus Christ and any local church (specifically, Christ’s Chapel) is the focus of today’s message.

I Am Second - Paul
Sun/13/09 2009 Filed in: I AM SECOND
Pressures in life can be the result of a nagging physical condition or a critical illness but sometimes you can’t really put you finger on the source of pressure but it seems like the daily demands and decisions of life just begin to get the best of you. As one author appropriately put it, “It’s the sand that constantly keeps getting into my shoes that almost drives me crazy.”Click here to listen to this week's podcast or download the .mp3 file to your computer.
I Am Second -The Prodigal
Mon/07/09 2009 Filed in: I AM SECOND
The Parable of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15 tells the story of a man and his two sons. Neither son loved the father for himself. They both were using the father for their own self-centered ends rather than loving, enjoying, and serving him for his own sake. This means that you can rebel against God and be alienated from him either by breaking his rules or by keeping all of the diligently.”Click here to listen to this week's podcast or download the .mp3 file to your computer.

The world is sometimes a very evil place. The realities of bias, sexism, prejudice, and racism clearly show just how ugly and evil we can be toward one another. These things are not only true today but they’ve been true throughout all of human history and they were true in the days of Jesus. And they all find specific expression in a story that’s found in John 4.Listen to this week's podcast here or download the .mp3 file to your computer.

Don't Waste Your Life
Sun/09/08 2009 Filed in: Christ's Chapel Sermons
Pastor Terry featured a quote from John Piper's book Don't Waste Your Life. What would it mean to waste my life? That was a burning question. Or, more positively, what would it mean to live well— not to waste life, but to . . .? How to finish that sentence was the question. I was not even sure how to put the question into words, let alone what the answer might be. What was the opposite of not wasting my life? “To be successful in a career”? Or “to be maximally happy”? Or “to accomplish something great?” Or “to find the deepest meaning and significance”? Or “to help as many people as possible”? Or “to serve Christ to the full”? Or “to glorify God in all I do”? Or was there a point, a purpose, a focus, an essence to life that would fulfill every one of those dreams?”Listen to this week's podcast or download the.mp3 file to your computer.

Connect 4 Prayer
Sun/28/06 2009 Filed in: Christ's Chapel Sermons
I find it interesting and inspiring to discover that Jesus surrendered to God this group of disciples and the success of the kingdom throughout the ages in John 17. Jesus had taught them these three basic principles and he then shows them the 4th and final truth by praying an incredible prayer. In essence, he gave to God the ultimate responsibility for the church, as he knew he had done all that he could do. Listen to this week's podcast or download the .mp3 file to your computer.

Connect 4 Bearing Fruit

John records Jesus' words regarding our need to "bear fruit" - Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself: it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."Listen to this week's Podcast here or download the .mp3 file to your computer.
